Telemedicine

Tips for a Great Telemedicine Visit

  1. Have your child with you in a well-lit room that is as quiet and free of distractions as possible.
    • We get it.. you’re at home, so do your best. If we end up seeing your other children or your pets, that’s ok! (and even fun for us to see them!)
  2.  Sign in to www.CallKidsDoc.com or the iPhone app with practice code “Miraclemile” ahead of time & complete a profile for each of your children.
  3. The doctor will have you help with your child’s Exam.
    • We might have you get them to say “ahhh,” take their temperature, or show us a rash, among other things.
  4. Dont be nervous to ask questions and have your child do the same.
    • It might be fun for your child to show us their favorite toy or introduce their pet. Those things will help your child be more comfortable with the visit.

Tools to have Available

  1. A thermometer (to take your child’s temperature)

  2. A falshlight or light source other than a phone (so we can look at your child’s throat)
  3. Your Child’s weight or a scale
  4. The name/location of your pharmacy

Limits of Telemedicine

While telemedicine offers excellent alternatives during the COVID-19 pandemic and other situations, there are limitations:

  • It cannot replace in-person care for procedures like stitches or hands-on assessments.
  • However, telemedicine can help you determine whether an in-office or ER visit is necessary, potentially saving you time and unnecessary trips.

Ultimately, telemedicine is a valuable tool to maintain your child’s health while minimizing risks. Don’t hesitate to ask questions during the visit to ensure you feel confident about the next steps in your child’s care.

  • “We recognize we are all practicing pediatrics in circumstances we have never encountered before in our careers.”
